State of São Paulo invests €462 million in two new commuter lines in Campinas

The government of the state of São Paulo has announced an investment of €462 million (BRL 2.6 billion) for the construction of two commuter rail lines in the metropolitan region of Campinas. The new lines, which will be realised via a public-private partnership (PPP), will connect the centre of Campinas with Viracopos International Airport and the cities of Hortolandia and Sumare. The project is scheduled to start in early 2026, the tender is expected to take place in 2027, and construction work is expected to take eight years. The projects include the construction of 44 km of lines, evenly distributed between the two routes.
