STR approves doubling of tracks on seven lines

The board of the Thai state railway SRT has approved the last three projects in the second phase of doubling track capacity. A total of seven lines will be upgraded at a cost of €7.4 billion (THB 292.5 billion). The projects include the Chumphon – Surat Thani line with a length of 168 km, the Surat Thani – Hat Yai-Songkhla line with 324 km and the Denchai – Chiang Mai line with 189 km, with a total cost of €3.8 billion. A report for approval by the cabinet is expected by October 2024, with royal approval for land acquisition by May 2025. The tender for construction contracts is expected to take place between November 2024 and May 2025, with construction planned to be completed by 2031.
