Authorisation granted for the construction of the LRT in Salvador

The Brazilian state of Bahia has authorised the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) in Salvador. The project, which was put out to tender by the Bahia State Transport Company (CTB), comprises three lines with a total length of 36.4 km and 34 stops. The construction work and the energy system for these lines are estimated to cost around €549 million (BRL 3.2 billion). The LRT will replace the suburban railway, which was shut down three years ago. Once the service contract has been signed, the construction, earthworks and preparatory services will begin.
