Tender for modernisation of the Tren Macho reaches final stage

The tender launched by the Peruvian Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión) for the modernisation of the “Tren Macho” railway line between Huancayo and Huancavelica is in the final phase and is expected to be awarded in July 2024. A 30-year concession contract will be awarded for the modernisation of the 128.7 km line, including five years for design and construction and 25 years for operation and maintenance. It also includes the improvement of the existing infrastructure and the renovation of seven railway stations and 20 stops. The final concession contract has already been approved by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Supervisory Authority for Public Infrastructure and Transport Investments (OSITRAN). Still pending is the review by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). The consortia Ferrocarril HH and Concesionaria Ferroviaria del Centro, as well as the construction company Mota-Engil have already qualified to submit proposals. The project requires an investment of around €366.8 million (US$394 million) by the selected concessionaire. Once the Tren Macho is operational, six daily passenger rail transport journeys and one rail freight transport and passenger rail transport journey will be operated.
