EBRD and USAID sign MoU to develop the Middle Corridor

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop the Middle Corridor. This route starts in Southeast Asia and China, runs through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and on to European countries. The partnership aims to expand trade, green energy, investment in new industries, transport, and digital infrastructure in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The agreement aims to improve the planning, design, and construction of critical infrastructure and increase the efficiency of customs, tariff, and border operations to attract private capital investment. It also focuses on investing in carbon-free energy sources and promoting policy and governance reforms. Currently, 25 companies from 11 countries use the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. In 2023, freight volumes increased by 86% compared to 2022 and 2.7 million t were transported.
