Government seeks €6.9 billion in infrastructure investment

Tajikistan has announced plans to develop its railway infrastructure and is seeking €6.9 billion (US$7.5 billion) in investment. Despite the small total length of less than 1,000 km, the railway plays a crucial role in Tajikistan's economy and is responsible for transporting 70% of all imports and exports. The country's transport minister has announced more than ten major development projects for the railway network. Particular attention is being paid to the development of economic and multimodal transport corridors in Tajikistan, connecting the countries of Southeast Asia with Central Asia, Russia, Iran, Turkey, and other European countries and providing access to the sea.
