LTA puts TEL4 into operation

On 23rd June 2024, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore launched passenger services on the fourth phase of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL4). The 10.8 km section comprises seven stations in Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap, and Bayshore in south-east Singapore. The TEL has been gradually opened since 2020 from Woodlands North in the north via the city centre towards Gardens by the Bay in the south of Singapore. The fifth phase of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL5), which runs from Bayshore to Sungei Bedok, is scheduled to open in 2026, together with the extension of the Downtown Line (DTL) between Expo and Xilin. There are also plans to open an additional station on the TEL at the Founders' Memorial between Gardens by the Bay and Tanjong Rhu in 2028. Long-term plans envisage that the TEL will continue to Changi Airport until the mid-2030s, in parallel with the opening of Terminal 5.
