New transit route planned between Russia and China

The Kazakh government is planning a new transit route to be completed by 2026 to facilitate cargo transportation between China and Russia. This route will use the Irtysh River and transport cargo by riverboat before it is forwarded by road or rail. The project includes the construction of a cargo port in Tugyl, a 100 km long railroad line to China, and the development of new hydraulic structures and pusher vessel capacities. The aim is to transport up to 3.6 million t of freight annually.
