British Transport Minister announces reform of the transport system

The UK Transport Secretary Louise Haigh has announced a comprehensive reform of the transport system and presented her priorities and the relevant Secretaries of State. Haigh has mobilised government departments to begin work on rail reform, devolving powers over bus services to the regions, ensuring infrastructure works and supporting local authorities in the long-term repair of roads. Haigh has identified five strategic priorities. Improving rail performance and driving forward rail reform, improving bus services and increasing usage across the country, transforming infrastructure, promoting social mobility and tackling regional inequality, promoting greener transport and better integration of transport networks. She has also appointed the Secretaries of State. Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill is responsible for rail, Lilian Greenwood for roads, Simon Lightwood for public transport, and Mike Kane for aviation, maritime transport, and safety.
